Fixed-Length Packets versus Variable-Length Packets in Fast Packet Switching Networks

چکیده
Fast Packet Switching (FPS) networks are designed to carry many kinds of traac, including voice, video, and data. In this paper, we evaluate one design parameter of FPS networks: whether the packets should be xed-length or variable-length. We consider three measures of performance: user frame loss rates, average latency, and eeective bandwidth.

New High Secure Network Steganography Method Based on Packet Length
In network steganography methods based on packet length, the length of the packets is used as a carrier for exchanging secret messages. Existing methods in this area are vulnerable against detections due to abnormal network traffic behaviors. The main goal of this paper is to propose a method which has great resistance to network traffic detections. In the first proposed method, the sender embe...
متن کاملOn the Provision of Integrated Qos Guarantees of Switches * Unicast and Multicast Traffic in Input - Queued
In this paper, we address the problem of providing QoS guarantees for multiple input-queued switching architecture. Stable matching of inputs and outputs is used for scheduling the enqueued packets to be transmitted across the switching fabric. With an in-depth theoretic analysis on the properties of stable matching in the context of a multiple input-queued switch, we propose efficient schemes ...
متن کاملPhotonic Buffer Architecture to Support Prioritized Buffermanagement for Asynchronously Arriving Variable Length Packets
We study photonic packet switching architecture that enables high node throughput and provides priority services. While an ultra-high-speed address-lookup capability can be realized in the optical domain for a photonic packet switch, the optical buffer must be managed in the electrical domain. In this paper, we propose a photonic buffer architecture that can support prioritized buffer managemen...
متن کاملHigh Speed Networks EFFICIENT SCHEDULING OF VARIABLE-LENGTH IP PACKETS ON HIGH-SPEED SWITCHES*
ATM switches have been proposed as the switching fabric cores of many high-performance IP switches. In this paper, we present an efficient algorithm called IPPIM for scheduling variable-length IP packets on these switches and compare its performance with the original parallel iterative matching (PIM) ATM cell scheduling algorithm. The mean IP packet delays using both the PIM and the IP-PIM sche...
متن کاملAn Optimization Solution for Packet Scheduling: A Pipeline-Based Genetic Algorithm Accelerator
The dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) technique has been developed to provide a tremendous number of wavelengths/channels in an optical fiber. In the multi-channel networks, it has been a challenge to effectively schedule a given number of wavelengths and variable-length packets into different wavelengths in order to achieve a maximal network throughput. This optimization process ha...
